Do you find it tedious to Mount the USB just to transfer an update or zip file, or even move picture or music back and forth between the computer and your phone? There are many apps and ways that you can do this and here is one, in an easy step by step tutorial. Plus it will help save plugging in your USB cable from either the computer or phone all the time, saving wear and tear. Note only will this allow access to the SD card, but for most of us, it’s the only thing we need, and makes it a lot more convenient.

You need an FTP client on your computer. I personally use FileZilla which is a free Open Source (GNU/GPL) FTP client for Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux. Download it here: Filezilla

First, you’ll need to download and install SWiFTP from the Marketplace (free app) on your phone. After installation, run the program, you’ll be taken to the setup screen. Enter a username and password. I would also suggest to keep the the ‘Stay within the folder’ option checked, so you don’t mess with sytem files, since they’re in use, unless you know exactly what you’re doing. Then, select ‘Save’. On the following screen, select ‘Start’. (Make sure your Wi-Fi is turned ON). Underneath, make note of the WiFi URL (192.168.1.XXX:2121). Record this for later.

Now back to your computer. Run Filezilla, and you’ll be presented with a explorer type window. In the Task Bar at the top, enter the following information:
In the Host, enter the server name you recorded in the previous step ( the WiFi URL). Enter your username and password from step 1 above. MAKE SURE the PORT is 2121. In the future, just click the drop-down arrow next to the Quick Connect button, and select your phone.

Confirm the SWiFTP is running on your phone, and click ‘Quick Connect’ in Filezilla. Your now connected to the SD Card, with drag and drop capabilities. SD Card is on the right window, your computer is on the left.

(You may need to adjust any Firewall settings to allow Filezilla access).

If you like this tutorial, feel free to comment on it and let us know!
