If you own an HTC Hero, this guide will instruct you on how to make the background of your weather widgets clear in 2.1 ROMs. If you don’t like the black background of the widget, then keep reading so you can get this minor thing taken care of!

There are a couple different versions of the widget update file that are available. Make sure you read the notes beside each version to make sure you flash the correct one. Your phone needs to be rooted and recovery installed to do this.

clearweather-sprint-signed – Download this if you’re running a basic Android 2.1 ROM.

regaw-clearweather-signed – Download if you are using a custom Android 2.1 ROM. This has been confirmed working on the following ROMs:

• RegawMOD 2.1
• FreshROM 2.1.2 (and possibly other 2.1 Versions of FreshROM)
• 2.1 Lite from Android Central

Once you download the correct file, copy it to the root of your SD card. Then power your phone off. Press and hold Home and Power until recovery loads, then scroll to Flash Zip from SDcard. Select the ZIP you just loaded onto your SD card, and press Home to confirm. When it says finished, back out of the menu there, and scroll back up to Reboot Now. Your phone will take a few minutes to boot up, because it’s rebuilding cache.

Once your phone loads, if it didn’t seem to work, try going into Settings > Applications and clearing your HTC Sense and Weather Widget caches.

If that still does not work, try rebooting your phone after you clear those two caches.

Finally, if that still didn’t work, please download com.htc.WeatherWidget, place it into your C:\Android\tools folder, and follow these instructions:

1. Open a command prompt, then navigate to your tools folder:

cd C:\Android\tools

2. Enter the following commands, one per line:

mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

cd /system/app

rm com.htc.WeatherWidget.apk

exit

adb push com.htc.WeatherWidget.apk /system/app

4. Reboot your phone. This will place the original Weather Widget app back onto your phone, like nothing ever happened. This shouldn’t have to happen, but if it does, please let us know so we can work on getting something that will work for you!

Here’s an Android 2.1 Theme that you can download right now an apply to your phone, changing the current theme to this custom-made theme. Screenshots are below, but first you need to download the Vanilla Lockscreen zip, located here. This will fix the current lockscreen, install the Vanilla clock and remove the World clock. When you install this Vanilla Lockscreen, it will be broken because it is based on the World Clock for the time on the lockscreen, hence the reason why we’re removing the World Clock and installing the Vanilla Clock.

First off, this theme has been completely modified from the stock 2.1 theme, so none of the icons, taskbar icons, stock app icons or anything will be what they currently are on your phone. It has a custom wallpaper and everything, and seems very clean and not too hard on the eyes, either. It’s based on the color blue, hence the name ‘Blue Echo’. This theme was created by konikub from XDA, and it has some very nice, unique features. The theme is a tweaked, “facelifted, and tummy-tucked” version of the latest DamageControl ROM, and it sure does have some very nice unique features. Let’s jump into them.

Here are some tips on flashing your new ROM+theme:

You MUST wipe before flashing if coming from another ROM!

This will take a long time to load…..just wait and be patient, there are a few fixes that are being implimented. Go off and do something and be back in ten mins or so  It will sit on the black HTC screen for about 6 mins, then go to the boot animation for another 5 mins….then you’ll see the set up wizard!

To get the fastest possible ROM…..set Auto Killer to Moderate or Aggressive, and set SpareParts “window animations” and “transitions animations” to FAST.
